| The South Indian Union State of Kerala is the most exemplary one of India due to its high rate of literacy. The lush green landscape is a real sprawling wonder: Water is abound, especially in the picturesque Backwaters, a huge lagoon system just behind the coast, spreading several hundreds of kilometres from Cochin to Kollam.Kerala is nature’s bounty: Coconut groves, bananas, cashew nuts, rubber and glimmering paddy fields dominate the landscape.The old sailor city of Cochin is a traditional spices trading centre with worldwide shipments. |

| The highlands of Thekkady and Periyar are a famous spice growing area. The Periyar National Park inhabits elephants and tigers. Madurai is known as South India’s temple city. The huge Meenakshi Temple is the hub for followers of Hindu goddess Minakshi from all parts of the country. The surrounding of Munnar in the mountains offers tea plantations – as far as the eye can see. A journey on a traditional Rice Boat in the Backwater world of Kerala . |

| End of the tour is Cochin. From here you have the opportunity to extend a two or three weeks Ayurveda therapy, e.g. in one of the resorts in the hinterland of Kerala on the beach of Kovalam. |

Day 1: Cochin:
Flight to Cochin.

Day 2: Cochin:
Arrival in Cochin, the "Queen of the Arabian Sea" on the so-called "Pepper Coast". Trasfer to Hotel. Sightseeing with St. Francis Church, where 1524 the Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama was entombed. See the Mattancherri Palace or Dutch Palace with excellent preserved mural paintings and the Jew City with Synagogue (1567).A distinctive feature are the "filigree Chinese Fishing Nets", a catch method, passed over 700 years ago by traders from the court of Kublai Khan. |

| In the evening experience a Kathakali dance performance, typical, 400 years old dance drama, based on old legends and tales from hindu mythology. Overnight in Hotel. |

Day 3: Cochin – Munnar:
Scenic journey, first with jungle forest, then passing the highland of Munnar (1,600 m), to the center of the South India’s tea growing area, one of the highest in the world. Overnight in Hotel. |

Day 4: Munnar – Madurai:
Drive down to the plains to the temple city Madurai, famous as city that never sleeps. Visit Nayaka Palace, one of the best examples of Indo-Saracenic art. The Meenakshi Temple, main temple of the city and one of the biggest in India, is dedicated to the fish-eyed Goddess Meenakshi. Evening ceremony in the Meenakshi Temple. Overnight in Hotel. |

Day 5: Madurai – Periyar:
Leave the plains drive up the mountains to the Western Ghats (900 – 2,000 m) to Thekkady and Periyar, the spice growing area of India (cardamom, pepper, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla). Overnight in Hotel. |

Day 6: Periyar – Rice Boat:
Early morning boat ride on Periyar Lake. The protected area covers 777 km, bounded by mountain ridges of over 1,700 m altitude. The sanctuary surrounds the picturesque Periyar Lake. Elephants and a variety of water birds are domiciled here. The way down to the coastline of Kerala is most scenic with tea and rubber plantations on both sides. |

| At lunch time you go on board of your Rice Boat and navigate through the picturesque Backwaters, a huge system of water channels behind the coast. The vegetation is lush green with paddy fields an coconut groves. The so-called Kettuvalams are former barges reconstructed for the tourists with sun deck, sleeping room, dining area and a small kitchen. Overnight on the rice boat on full board basis. |

Day 7: Rice Boat – Cochin airport/Palakkad/Kovalam:
After breakfast end of the rice boat tour. Transfer to Cochin airport. End of programme. Flight back home or Ayurveda therapy e.g. drive to Ayurvedic Health Resort or extend the stay at a beach resort. |
